An Emotion Word Type Perspective on Language, Cognition, and Emotion

Presenter: Dr. Chenggang Wu

Emotion words are made up of emotion-label words and emotion-laden words. Emotion-label words are words that directly indicate emotional states, such as joy and sadness. Although emotion-laden words do not directly clarify emotional state, they can still trigger individual emotional responses, such as viruses, healing. Emotion word type perspective divides the two kinds of words. There is a large amount of behavioral and neural evidence that suggests there are processing differences between these two types of emotion words, and that such differences can even affect cognitive conflict processing and emotion perception. The emotion word type perspective establishes a bridge for the research of language processing, cognitive processing and emotional processing, and develops new research topics and questions.
